Alan Jackson, 75, to swim the English channel

75 year old Wells resident and swimming coach Alan Jackson is to swim the channel in a team of 5 experienced swimmers all aged over 70. Alan who has broken several swimming world records in his career and still teaches swimming at Alderman Peel high school in Wells is part of what may be the oldest team ever to take on this challenge.

Alan will be raising money for the Wells Shannon Lifeboat Appeal... please support his efforts by donating on-line at the link below or completing one of his sponsorship forms in town.

UPDATE The crossing is waiting for suitable conditions and now looks likely to be on Saturday 23rd August, starting around noon. You can follow the progress of the swim once it starts by watching the pilot boat escorting Alan and the team on the live AIS map at the bottom of this page:
