Our water safety officer walks out on Wells beach to the dangerous area by the harbour entrance and finds herself cut off by the incoming tide... a short video that shows just how easy and frightening it is to get caught out here. Always check the time of high water and make sure you are back on the main beach or dry land at least fours hours beforehand!
The tide rises quickly in Wells quay and the harbour channel at a speed that can sweep you off your feet once it is up to your knees. Be safely off the marsh and sands and back on the quayside four hours before the time of high water.
The beach and sands at Wells disappear twice a day when the tide comes in... this time-lapse video shows the difference. Make sure you are back on land or the main beach by the beach huts once the tide starts to come in.

To avoid being cut off by the incoming tide on the sands or marshes, make sure you are back on the main Wells beach, coast path or the landward side of any channels four hours before the time of high water at Wells bar.
